Vietnam completes the construction of its first LNG import terminal (1 Mt/year)

PetroVietnam Gas, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s state-owned oil and gas company PetroVietnam (PVN), has completed the construction of its Thi Vai LNG import terminal, which is now ready to start receiving LNG cargoes. In addition, PetroVietnam Gas has received a certificate from the Ministry of Industry and Trade to become the country's first company eligible to import and export LNG.

The Thi Vai LNG terminal, Vietnam’s first LNG import terminal, is set to be put into use during the course of 2023. Located in the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau, the terminal will have a capacity of 1 Mt/year (1.35 bcm/year) in its first phase, and the company plans to boost the capacity to 3 Mt/year. The LNG import facility consists in one 180,000 cbm LNG tank, a jetty, and regasification area.

In April 2023, PetroVietnam issued a tender seeking to buy Vietnam's first LNG cargo (50,000 to 70,000 tonnes) to test run the terminal.
