Three large solar PV projects have been commissioned recently in Vietnam, adding 529 MW of solar capacity to the country.
In late June 2019, a joint venture of Truong Thanh Vietnam Group and B.Grim (Thailand) inaugurated the 257 MWp Hoa Hoi solar PV plant worth VND 4,985bn (US$214m) in the Phu Yen province. In addition, Sunseap International (Singapore) and InfraCo Asia have commissioned a 168 MW solar PV project in the Ninh Thuan province, on the south-central coast of Vietnam. The project will sell its power generation under a 20-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) signed in 2018, and will receive a feed-in tariff (FiT) of US$9.35c/kWh. Finally, the Sao Mai Group has commissioned the 104 MWp Sao Mai Solar PV1 plant worth VND 6,000bn (US$257m) in the Tinh Bien district of the An Giang province; a second phase rated 106 MWp is expected to be commissioned before the end of the year.
According to national power group EVN, 82 solar PV plants with a combined capacity of 4,460 MW were connected to the national grid as of 30 June 2019.
