Vietnam approves a grid connection plan for a 3.2 GW LNG-to-power project

Vietnam has recently approved its 8th Power Development Plan (PDP8), which includes the approval of the grid interconnection plan for the 3.2 GW Bac Lieu LNG-to-power project, currently being developed by Delta Offshore Energy (DOE) in southern Vietnam. The approval of the grid interconnection plan for the Bac Lieu project will allow connection to the Vietnam national grid. The 500 kV, 130 km Bac Lieu – Thot Not Transmission Line now approved in PDP8 will be a project of the national government and Electricité du Vietnam (EVN).

The approval will also allow DOE to complete a power purchase agreement (PPA) with EVN for the project, which has been in negotiations since the end of 2020. Following the approval, DOE has announced that it expects the completion of the PPA in the 4th quarter of 2023 and the construction to begin during the course of 2024.
