The state of Victoria (Australia) has approved the 1.5 GW Warracknabeal Energy wind park, located in the Wimmera region (Victoria state press release, 15/10/2026). Developed by Australian renewable energy company WestWind Energy, the project is expected to generate approximately 12.5% of Victoria’s electricity demand, according to the company’s press release.
“Once operational, the project is expected to be Australia’s largest wind farm and generate enough renewable electricity to power around 1.2 million homes and avoid more than 4.2 Mt of carbon emissions annually”, the company said. The site will also feature two battery energy storage systems (BESS), each with a capacity of 300 MW.
“Projects like this are critical to delivering Victoria’s nation-leading renewable energy targets of 65% by 2030 and 95% by 2035”, the state government added.
The project still requires federal government approval. If approved, construction could start as early as 2027 and the project could be operational in 2031.
