The government of Victoria (Australia) has awarded fast-tracked approvals for the following two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, totalling 700 MW/2,800 MWh, aiming to supply clean electricity during peak demand times.
- The Glenrowan BESS project, submitted by Akaysha Energy, with a capacity of up to 400 MW /1600 MWh,
- The Heywood BESS project, submitted by Atmos Developments, with a capacity of up to 300 MW / 1,200MWh.
The approvals represent the latest developments under Victoria’s DFP initiative, which was expanded to include renewable energy projects last year. Since then, the Victoria government has unlocked more than AU$9bn (US$6.38bn) in investment across 25 projects.
