The state government of Victoria (Australia) has approved a production license to restart the Patricia-Baleen gas fields off the state’s Gippsland coast (Australian local government press release, 28/10/2026). The licence has been granted to Cooper Energy, a subsidiary of Amplitude Energy, which expects to deliver up to 15 PJ of gas over its lifetime (over 400 mcm) which is the equivalent to 7% of all gas used in the state during 2025.
The project will use the existing Orbost Gas Plant and Patricia-Baleen pipeline to bring more gas into the Victorian market. The company plans to run production from 2028 to 2035. According to the government, the project forms part of measures intended to increase domestic gas supply and support energy affordability.
