Vestas wins 7 wind turbine contracts in America, Asia and Europe (1.5 GW)

The Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has simultaneously announced seven new contracts for wind turbines across several continents, totalling a capacity of more than 1.5 GW.

In Asia, Vestas has signed a preferred supplier agreement for a 495 MW floating offshore wind project in South Korea, for which the company will supply 33 V236-15.0 MW turbines. In addition, Vestas and Vibrant Energy have signed an agreement for two wind projects in India totalling 130 MW, for which the manufacturer will supply a total of 36 V155-3.6 MW turbines.

In North America, Vestas has received an order for two wind projects totalling 370 MW, located in the United States and owned by Xcel Energy. The manufacturer will supply 97 V110-2.0 MW wind turbines for the 213 MW Pleasant Valley project in Minnesota and 71 V110-2.0 MW turbines for the 156 MW Border Winds project, located in North Dakota. The new 2 MW turbines, which will operate in 2.2 MW operating mode, will help Xcel Energy repower the two projects. Commissioning is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.

In South America, Vestas has secured two contracts in Argentina. The company has received a firm order from YPF Luz for the supply and installation of 25 V162-6.2 MW EnVentus wind turbines for the 155 MW General Levalle wind park in the province of Cordoba (commissioning expected in the third quarter of 2024), and an order to supply 36 V150-4.5 MW wind turbines for the 162 MW La Elbita project in the Province of Buenos Aires (commissioning expected in the second quarter of 2024).

In Europe, Vestas has received a 140 MW order for the Cerrato, Atalayas and San Cebrián wind parks, to be located in Castilla y Leon (Spain). The contract includes the supply and installation of 20 V163-4.5 MW wind turbines and 11 V150-4.5 MW wind turbines (commissioning expected by 2024). Finally, the company has received an order from JUWI for five wind projects in Germany totalling 63 MW. Vestas will supply seven V126-3.45 MW turbines, one V150-5.6 MW turbine and six V162-5.6 MW turbines for those German projects (commissioning expected in 2024).

In late March 2023, Vestas had also signed a turbine agreement with the Brazilian energy company Casa dos Ventos for two onshore wind projects in Brazil totalling 1.3 GW.
