Vestas will supply turbines for a 780 MW offshore wind project (Netherlands)

The Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas has been selected by the Dutch renewable energy developer Ecowende to supply wind turbines for the 780 MW Hollandse Kust West (site 6) offshore wind project, located off the Netherlands. Vestas will supply 52 of its 236-15.0MW turbines. The Danish company will also service the project under a 15-year service contract once the installation is completed.

The Hollandse Kust West project has a grid connection capacity of 760 MW and an excess capacity of 20 MW to use the connection capacity as efficiently as possible. Turbine installation at sea is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026, while commissioning of the project is expected by the end of 2026.

The Netherlands targets 21 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 70 GW by 2050. As of end-2021, approximately 2.5 GW of offshore wind energy had been fully commissioned (3.2 GW in 2022 according to preliminary estimates). Currently, more than 2 GW of onshore and offshore wind power are under construction in the Netherlands, and nearly 15 GW are under development.
