Venture Global takes FID on phase 2 of the Plaquemines LNG project (US)

The US LNG developer Venture Global LNG has reached financial close and taken a final investment decision (FID) on the US$7.8bn second phase of its 20 Mt/year Plaquemines LNG terminal located in the US state of Louisiana. The FID for the first 10 Mt/year phase at Plaquemines LNG was taken in May 2022. Together, phase one and phase two represent approximately US$21bn of investment.

Several companies, including ExxonMobil, Chevron, EnBW, New Fortress Energy, China Gas, PETRONAS and Excelerate Energy have already signed supply agreements with Venture Global for the Plaquemines LNG phase 2. PGNiG, Sinopec, CNOOC, Shell and EDF have also signed sales and purchase agreements for Plaquemines phase 1.

There are currently six LNG export terminals operating in the United States for a total capacity of nearly 80 Mt/year, and the country exported more than 146 bcm (108 Mt) of LNG in 2021.
