Venture Global has announced the start of commercial operations at its 10 Mt/year Calcasieu Pass (CP) LNG project located in Cameron Parish, in the US State of Louisiana. The LNG terminal comprises nine trains of 1.2 Mt/year each, along with a 720 MW gas-fired CCGT power plant. Several supply and purchase agreements (SPAs) for the project have already been signed with Shell, Edison, Galp Energia, BP, Repsol, PGNiG, Sinopec and CNOOC.
Calcasieu Pass LNG started producing LNG in 2022, while Venture Global’s second facility, 20 Mt/yera Plaquemines LNG, achieved first production of LNG in December 2024. Venture Global is also developing the 20 Mt/year Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) LNG terminal in Louisiana, scheduled to enter full operation in 2026.
As of end-2024, the US had seven LNG liquefaction export terminals with a combined capacity of 119 bcm/year (88 Mt/year). LNG export capacities are expected to increase by more than 50% by 2026 and LNG export volumes to double by 2050.
