Venture Global plans to invest US$8.5bn in the development of a gas liquefaction and LNG export terminal in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana (United States).
The Plaquemines LNG project will be developed in two phases of 10 Mt/year each and will include up to four 200,000 m3 storage tanks and three berthing docks to accommodate LNG carriers of up to 210,000 m3. Venture Global expects to secure the approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to start construction as early as 2018. The first phase is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2020 and the second phase will follow later, in case of an increased market demand (expected in 2022). The LNG export terminal project will also include a 1,440 MW gas-fired CCGT power plant.
Venture Global is also developing another LNG project in Louisiana, the 10 Mt/year Calcasieu Pass LNG project. First LNG production could occur in late 2019 and the liquefaction plant should be fully operational in 2020.
