The US LNG developer Venture Global LNG is seeking to accelerate the construction of its 20 Mt/year Plaquemines LNG terminal located in the US state of Louisiana, after weather-related delays in 2022, and the company aims to add construction workers and to allow work 24/7. Venture Global LNG, which plans to invest around US$21bn in the liquefaction project, aims to start LNG exports from the first 10 Mt/year phase as soon as late 2024 and to complete the construction of the second 10 Mt/year phase by the end of 2026. Several companies, including ExxonMobil, Chevron, EnBW, New Fortress Energy, China Gas, PETRONAS and Excelerate Energy have already signed supply agreements with Venture Global for the Plaquemines LNG phase 2. PGNiG, Sinopec, CNOOC, Shell and EDF have also signed sales and purchase agreements for Plaquemines phase 1.
In addition, Gulfstream LNG Development has received an export authorisation from the US Department of Energy to export LNG from its proposed 4 Mt/year Gulfstream LNG project in Louisiana to countries with a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The project would consist of several modular liquefaction trains of less than 1 Mt/year each. It is currently under review by the US FERC and is not expected before 2029.
