Swedish power utility Vattenfall generated 173 TWh in 2014, a 4.8% decrease compared to 2013. This drop is mainly due to a 5.7% decrease in thermal generation (83 TWh) partly linked to the sale of the Amager and Fynsverket CHP plants in Denmark and to a 3.8% fall in nuclear generation (50 TWh). Renewable power generation also decreased, by 3.6% for hydro (34 TWh) and by 6.3% for wind and other renewables (5.9 TWh). Heat and gas sales also decreased, due to a warmer weather.
The company is currently revising its business strategy, implementing a new organisational structure and is divesting assets. Vattenfall is seeking to sell its German lignite activities and new partners to finance wind projects in Sweden. Indeed, Vattenfall is focusing its investments on wind power and has started several new wind projects, including the 228 MW Pen y Cymoedd onshore wind park in the United Kingdom and the Dan Tysk and Sandbank offshore wind parks (288 MW each) in Germany.
