The Swedish utility Vattenfall has released its 2022 results, in which the company posted a profit of SEK37.3bn (€3.3bn), a nearly 20% increase compared to 2021 profits, notably due to higher electricity prices. Vattenfall generated 108.9 TWh of electricity in 2022 (-2.2% compared to 2021), including 40.5 TWh from hydro (-0.7%), 39.6 TWh from nuclear (-2%), 16.3 TWh from thermal (-12.4%), 12.2 TWh from wind (+8.9%) and 0.3 TWh from biomass (stable).
Vattenfall sold 165.3 TWh in 2022 (of which 111.4 TWh for customer sales), a 2.1% decrease compared to 2021. The group’s gas sales amounted to 47.3 TWh (-17.2%).
At the end of 2022, Vattenfall had 4.5 GW of installed solar and wind capacity (+0.3 GW compared to 2021), with 2.6 GW of offshore wind, 1.8 GW of onshore wind and 76 MW of solar. The group has 1.4 GW installed in Denmark, 1.1 GW in the UK, 748 MW in Sweden, 645 MW in Germany and 564 MW in the Netherlands. The company currently has 2.2 GW of wind capacity under construction and 5.3 GW under development at a mature stage.
