The Swedish state-owned power utility Vattenfall has released its 2021 results, posting a SEK48bn (€4.6bn) profit (+522% compared to 2020, thanks to the compensation for early shutdown of nuclear power in Germany, changes in market value for energy derivatives and inventories and capital gain from sale of Stromnetz Berlin in Germany).
The company produced 111.3 TWh of electricity in 2021 (-1.3% compared to 2020), including 40.8 TWh from hydropower (+2.8%), 40.4 TWh from nuclear power (+2.8%), 18.6 TWh from fossil power (-18%), 11.1 TWh from wind power (+2.8%) and 0.3 TWh from biomass and waste (stable). Vattenfall sold 168.9 TWh of electricity in 2021 (+2.9%), including 120.5 TW to customers (+1.9%), 57.1 TWh of gas (+0.5%) and 15.6 TWh of heat (+13%).
The group had a wind and solar installed capacity of 4.2 GW at the end of 2021 (+0.6 GW compared to 2020), with 2.6 GW of offshore wind and 1.6 GW of onshore wind. Vattenfall's wind and solar installed capacity is mostly located in Denmark (1.4 GW) and in the United Kingdom (1.1 GW). The group commissioned its 605 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind plant in the Danish Baltic Sea in September 2021.
