Vattenfall signs grid connection deal for Dutch offshore wind project

Vattenfall has signed an agreement with the Dutch power transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT for the offshore grid connection for the 750 MW Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4 offshore wind project in the Netherlands (two 375 MW wind parks). The project is the second phase of the 1.4 GW Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind project that Vattenfall is currently building in the Dutch part of the North Sea. TenneT has been assigned as offshore grid operator and will instal 1.4 GW of offshore grid connection for the project (two offshore transformer platforms, including two 220 kV AC cables each).

The 700 MW Hollandse Kust Zuid 1 & 2 wind project is expected to be commissioned in 2022-2023 and TenneT will start to work on the grid connection in 2021. Vattenfall won the tender for the Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4 phase in July 2019: offshore construction will start in 2022, while commissioning is scheduled in 2024. The project will have to be fully operational within 5 years after permit have become irrevocable. The two phases of the project will not benefit from financial aid for power generation.
