Vattenfall sells its Polish activities to PGNiG and Tauron

Vattenfall has reached agreements with PGNiG, the Polish gas company, and with Tauron Group, a leading heat and electricity generation and distribution company, for the sale of its business in Poland. PGNiG will acquire Vattenfall Heat Poland for €880m; the equity portion valued at €720m will be paid in cash. The sales agreement with PGNiG covers all VHP operations including the combined heat and power plants Żerań, Siekierki and Pruszkow as well as the heat generation plants Kawęczyn and Wola, that feed heat into the local Warsaw and Pruzkow grids respectively. The total installed capacity of the plants is 4,800 MW (thermal) and 980 MW (electricity). In 2010 VHP sold 11.9 TWh of heat and 3.8 TWh of electricity.

Vattenfall also sold its electricity distribution and network service company, Gornoslaski Zaklad Elektroenergetyczny (Silesia) to Tauron for €838m; the equity portion of €1.1bn will be paid in cash as well. GZE is a Polish Distribution System Operator providing approximately 10 per cent of the electricity consumed in Poland. Its operational area covers almost the entire Upper Silesia region and amounts to 4,221 km2, serving 1.1 million customers. The length of its distribution lines amounts to almost 30,000 km.
