The Swedish utility Vattenfall has split its wind business unit (BU) Vattenfall Wind into three sub-units: Onshore, Offshore, Photovoltaic & Battery, thereby implementing a lean business model with specific product lines in order to create dedicated end-to-end-processes and business . The three affiliates will cover the entire supply chain of their respective businesses and will be focused towards a product line driven organization.
Vattenfall Wind was created in April 2015 in the wake of a major restructuring in the company. As of today, it operates in six European countries: Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and France. In 2016, it reported an operating capacity of 2,500 MW and an output of 6 TWh over Europe. By 2020, it plans to extend its wind capacity on land and at sea from 2,500 MW up to 4,000 MW and will invest €5.5bn for this purpose.
The most significant projects are namely the 407 MW Horns Rev offshore wind park complex, off Denmark's west coast. The Horns Rev-3 will be commissioned in 2019-2020. In November 2016, Vattenfall Wind also won the tender to build the 600 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind facility in Denmark.
