Vattenfall plans to expand the Storlandet wind project to 2.6 GW (Sweden)

The Swedish utility Vattenfall plans to expand the capacity of its Storlandet onshore wind project, located in Norrbotten County (northern Sweden) to 2.6 GW, increasing the number of turbines to 373 from the originally planned 120. Vattenfall has invited local stakeholders in Norrbotten to a consultation on the planned wind project and announced plans to concentrate the additional turbines on the same area as in the initial plans, namely the municipalities of Boden and Gällivare. The project could become operational by 2030.

At the end of 2022, Vattenfall had 4.4 GW of installed wind capacity, including 748 MW in Sweden.

Sweden has issued a roadmap for a transition to an entirely renewable electricity system (100% renewable electricity production) by 2040. In 2021, the country had 193 MW of installed offshore wind capacity and nearly 12 GW of onshore wind.
