Vattenfall divests 50% stake in 1 GW Muir Mhòr floating wind (UK)

The Norwegian renewable project developer Fred. Olsen Seawind has reached an agreement to purchase Vattenfall’s 50% stake in the 1 GW Muir Mhòr floating offshore wind project located off the Aberdeenshire coast in eastern Scotland (United Kingdom), thereby securing complete ownership of the park (Fred. Olsen Seawind press release, 22/04/2026).

  • Muir Mhòr secured seabed rights in 2022 during the ScotWind leasing round and stands as one of the world’s initial commercial-scale floating offshore wind endeavors.
  • The project obtained onshore consent in 2025 and now pending the offshore consent decision. It targets an early allocation round with plans to commence renewable energy generation in the early 2030s.

Vattenfall explained that “the decision reflects Vattenfall’s current portfolio priorities, as the company focuses on offshore wind developments such as Nordlicht I and II in Germany, and Zeevonk in the Netherlands. In Scotland, construction of the Clashindarroch II onshore wind parks continues, with first power expected in 2027.”

The deal remains contingent on obtaining regulatory approvals.
