Vårgrønn submits application for a 1.35 GW floating wind project off Scotland (UK)

Vårgrønn, a joint venture between Italy’s Plenitude (Eni) and HitecVision, and Scotland’s Flotation Energy have submitted a consent application to the Marine Directorate -Licensing Operations Team (MD-LOT) in Scotland (United Kingdom) to develop the up to 1.35 GW Cenos floating offshore wind project, to be located off the coast near Peterhead, Scotland. The project will comprise up to 95 floating turbine units and would be one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind parks.

In addition to Cenos, Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn are developing the 500 MW Green Volt floating wind project, for which the companies secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) in September 2024.

Scotland targets 11 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. At the national level, the United Kingdom aims to reach 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030, of which 5 GW would be floating offshore wind.
