Norway’s Vår Energi (part of Eni group) has made an oil and gas discovery at the Vidsyn prospect in the Norwegian Sea. The Vidsyn Ridge — where the discovery was made — would have the potential to hold up to 100 mboe gross. The well has confirmed recoverable resources in the range of 25 to 40 mboe gross, which are considered commercially viable. The remaining potential of the ridge will be assessed through an appraisal program.
This marks Vår Energi’s third commercial discovery so far in 2025. The find will be evaluated as a potential tie-in to the nearby Fenja oil and gas field. Vår Energi holds a 75% stake in the exploration licence, while fellow Norwegian companies DNO and Sval Energi hold 7.5% and 17.5%, respectively.
In 2024, Norway produced approximately 131 bcm of natural gas (+8%).
