The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has unveiled its "Concept of providing the Republic of Uzbekistan with electric energy for 2020-2030", in which it plans to increase the installed capacity by more than 16 GW to over 29 GW and to nearly double its power generation to over 120 TWh in 2030. In particular, Uzbekistan plans to build 1.5 GW of hydropower, 5 GW of solar and 3 GW of wind capacity by 2030, in order to cover 22% of its power mix with wind and solar by 2030 (from 0 in 2019). The solar and wind projects will be financed by private investors exclusively and will be developed under a competitive bidding process (through auctions and tenders). Wind projects will range between 100 MW and 500 MW and will be sited in the northwest of the country, while 100-500 MW solar projects will be located in central and southern Uzbekistan; some solar projects between 50 MW and 200 MW will be located in other regions. The strategy also plans to modernise and reconstruct existing power plants and to improve power metering systems.
