Uzbekistan plans a 1.4 GW USC coal-fired power plant in Angren

The President of Uzbekistan has unveiled plans to build a 1.4 GW ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired power plant in Angren, as part of a review of proposals on the development of the coal industry and related investment projects over the 2027-2030 period (Uzdaily, 28/05/2026). The USD1.3bn project would consist of four 350 MW USC units, and could produce up to 9.8 TWh/year of electricity, saving up to 2 bcm/year of natural gas.

The power project would tap the 233 Mt Nisbosh coal deposit and is part of a broader plan to develop this deposit, where USD494m will be invested to raise coal production to 10 Mt/year.
