US Utica shale play reserves are 20 times larger than estimated

According to a new study by the West Virginia University, the potential recoverable resources of Utica shale play are more than 20 times bigger than previously estimated. The U.S. Geological Survey estimated in 2012 that technically recoverable resources in the Utica were 1,000 bcm (38 tcf) of gas and 940 mbl of oil. The new study finds the technically recoverable resources at 22,000 bcm (782 tcf) and almost 2,000 mbl of oil. According to the West Virginia University study, the Utica play, which extend over the States of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio and New York, would be the largest shale oil and gas play in the U.S.A.
