The US state of Connecticut approves US$700m energy efficiency plan

The US state of Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has approved a US$708m, three-year energy efficiency plan, the “2022-2024 Conservation and Load Management Plan” that focuses on equity, decarbonisation and affordability.

The plan prioritises energy efficiency efforts directed towards electric and gas utility customers with the largest past due balances and most frequent shutoffs. It is projected to generate US$1.7bn in total benefits and avoid 4.6 MtCO2 of emissions.

The plan is expected to save 4.8 TWh of electricity, and result in an annual peak demand reduction of 409 MW. The plan budgets about US$200m in 2022 for electric efficiency programs, US$178m in 2023 and US$174m in 2024. The gas efficiency budget will rise from US$45m in 2022 to US$56m in 2024.
