US PJM approves 1.7 GW of storage and a 455 MW gas-fired power project

The PJM Interconnection has accepted the first projects under its Expedited Interconnection Track (EIT), including 2.1 GW of power generation and storage capacity developed by Engie North America and LS Power across the PJM market in the United States (PJM Interconnection press release, 08/10/2026). The selected projects are among the first to benefit from PJM's accelerated interconnection process designed to bring new generation online more rapidly.

The approved portfolio includes 1.7 GW of storage capacity proposed by Engie (two standalone storage projects of 860 MW in Crawford, Pennsylvania, and 800 MW in Morrow, Ohio) and a 455 MW gas-fired power project in Adams, Pennsylvania, proposed by Hunterstown Generation, a subsidiary of LS Power. The projects were selected because they can be connected to the grid with limited network upgrades and are expected to help address forecast capacity shortages within the PJM region. All are expected to be commissioned by the end of July 2029.

The EIT programme was introduced by PJM to accelerate the interconnection of projects capable of reaching commercial operation within a shorter timeframe than projects progressing through the standard queue process.
