US NRC allows Peach Bottom nuclear reactors to operate until 2054

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has granted a 20-year license extension for the two reactors (units 2 and 3) of Exelon Generation’s Peach Bottom nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania (United States). The two reactors, rated 1,232 MW and 1,251 MW respectively, were both commissioned in 1974 and were recently upgraded to increase their capacity by around 12%. With this extension, Exelon Generation will be allowed to operate the reactors for another 20 years, i.e. until August 2053 for the unit 2 and until July 2054 for the unit 3.

Exelon Generation is the largest nuclear power generation company in the United States. The group operates 21 reactors at 12 nuclear power plants totalling more than 18,700 MW in Illinois, Maryland, New York and Pennsylvania. It also operates more than 12,300 MW of gas-fired, oil-fired, hydropower, wind and solar power capacities in 19 US states.
