The US gas producer NextDecade has signed a sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with France's oil and gas group TotalEnergies to supply 1.5 Mt/year of LNG to the French company for a duration of 20 years. The LNG volumes will be supplied to TotalEnergies from Train 4 of NextDecade’s 27 Mt/year Rio Grande LNG facility, located in the US State of Texas.
Earlier in April 2025, NextDecade also signed a 20-year SPA with Saudi Arabia's oil and gas group Aramco to supply 1.2 Mt/year of LNG from Train 4 of the Rio Grande LNG facility. In May 2024, the Emirati company ADNOC had already agreed to a 20-year LNG supply agreement for 1.9 Mt/year of LNG from the fourth train at Rio Grande LNG.
In August 2024, NextDecade signed turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with the engineering group Bechtel for the construction of Train 4 and related infrastructure at the Rio Grande LNG facility. The first phase is expected to start operations in 2027.
