The United States has allowed sanctioned Russian oil tanker “Anatoly Kolodkin” to deliver its cargo to Cuba (AP news, 30/03/2026). The delivery, the first of its kind this year due to a US oil blockade to the island, comes after the US President declared he had “no problem” with the delivery. The tanker is expected to arrive to the Cuban port of Matanzas and deliver about 730 kb of oil estimated to produce about 180 kb of diesel, or enough to feed Cuba’s daily demand for about ten days.
The US administration has effectively cut Cuba off from key oil shipments in an effort to force regime change, coming with a strategy more aggressive than that seen during previous governments. Cuba has experienced blackouts since the start of the blockade, according to AP News, the country produces barely 40% of the fuel it needs to power its economy.
