US FERC rejects rehearing Jordan Cove LNG project application

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has denied a request for rehearing the applications of Jordan Cove LNG and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline, stating that it would not reopen the record.

In March 2016, the FERC rejected the permit application for the 1 bcf/d (10.3 bcm/year) Pacific Connector gas pipeline project, which would supply gas to the Jordan Cove LNG project, a 6 Mt/year gas liquefaction project in Coos Bay, Oregon. The FERC considered that the adverse impacts of the proposed gas pipeline project would outweigh the public benefits of the Pacific Connector Pipeline; rejecting the pipeline project blocked the development of the 6 Mt/year LNG project, developed by Veresen, and initially expected in 2019.

Veresen will review all of its options in light of the FERC denial, including appeal or the submission of a new application with FERC. The company will provide an update on its strategy to advance the Jordan Cove LNG project at an appropriate time in the future.
