The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has prepared a final supplemental environmental impact statement (EIS) favourable to the development of the 17.6 Mt/year Rio Grande LNG and Texas LNG projects. The supplemental EIS addresses issues raised by the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and has determined that despite impacts on communities near the projects, the approval of the projects would result in less than significant impacts if the conditions set in the prior authorisations and additional mitigation measures are implemented, as recommended in the final supplemental EIS.
The US gas company NextDecade is developing the first phase of its Rio Grande LNG facility (17.6 Mt/year of LNG) located at the Port of Brownsville (Texas, US). The project is expected to start operations in 2027, with potential to increase its capacity up to 27 Mt/year. Glenfarne Group’s planned 4 Mt/year Texas LNG export terminal will be developed in two 2 Mt/year phases and is scheduled to start commercial operations by 2028.
