The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has granted Golden Pass Products a permit for the construction of the proposed Golden Pass gas liquefaction and export terminal in Sabine Pass, Texas (United States).
The project, promoted by Qatar Petroleum International (QPI, 70%) and ExxonMobil (30%), includes three liquefaction trains of 5.2 Mt each, for a total capacity of 15.6 Mt/year. The US$10bn export project will use the five 155,000 m3 storage tanks of the existing 15.3 Mt/year regasification terminal and will include feed gas treatment facilities and a 200-250 MW captive power plant to supply electricity to the liquefaction trains and other terminal operations.
The project has already received a license to export LNG to Free Trade Agreement countries from the US Department of Energy (DOE) and is awaiting approval to export to non-FTA nations. It also secured the environmental approval from FERC in July 2016. The project should be operational in 2022.
