US FERC approves first works on Plaquemines LNG export project

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has authorised Venture Global LNG to begin limited site preparation for its 20 Mt/year (27 bcm/year) Plaquemines LNG export facility in Plaquemines Parish (Louisiana). The company plans to start construction work in mid-2020. The financial close on the US$8.5bn project is scheduled in late 2020, with the first liquefaction unit expected to enter service in 2023. The project should be fully operational in 2025. Venture Global LNG is also developing the 20 Mt/year Delta LNG project, also in Plaquemines Parish (expected in 2024-2025), and the 10 Mt/year Calcasieu Pass LNG project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, expected in 202.

In August 2019, Venture Global LNG reached financial close for its proposed 10 Mt/year Calcasieu Pass LNG project and associated TransCameron gas pipeline. The project will require a total investment of US$5.8bn and secured a US$1.3bn equity investment from Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners. The liquefaction project will consist of nine trains of 1.2 Mt/year each, for a total capacity of 10 Mt/year. It has been fully permitted and received FERC authorization and Non-FTA export authorization from the US Department of Energy. Full site construction started in February 2019 and the project is expected to be commissioned in 2022. Several supply and purchase agreement (SPAs) for the project have been signed with Shell, BP, Edison, Galp Energia, Repsol and PGNiG.
