US federal court cancel permit for 2.2 GW Maryland offshore wind project

According to a court filing, the US administration has called for the revocation of the permit for the development of US Wind’s 2.2 GW Maryland offshore wind project off Maryland (United States). In the filing, the Department of Justice claims that the former administration underestimated the impact that the project would have on search and rescue operations and commercial fisheries.

The 2 GW Maryland offshore wind park, located off the US States of Maryland and Delaware, is being developed by US Wind (jointly owned by funds managed by US’ Apollo Global Management and Renexia, a subsidiary of Italy’s Toto Holding). Construction was originally slated to begin in 2026.

The US administration has recently targeted several wind parks, including moves to revoke permits for the 2.6 GW New England offshore wind project and issuing a stop-work order for Revolution Wind (700 MW), which is already 80% complete.
