The US DOE launches initiative to unleash up to 20 GW of incremental load

The US Department of Energy (DoE) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to launch “Speed to Power,” a federal initiative to meet rising energy demand in the country. The RFI seeks stakeholder input on large-scale grid infrastructure projects (transmission and generation), input on near-term investment opportunities, project readiness, load growth expectations, and infrastructure constraints that the DOE could address to accelerate the US energy production. With this initiative, the DOE aims to unleash at least 3 GW and up to 20 GW of incremental load including new interregional lines (of at least 1,000 MVA), to reconductor existing interconnection capacity (at least 500 MVA), to bring back into service retired thermal generation, and to build new generation assets. The RFI will be open until 21 November 2025.

The Speed to Power initiative responds to the National Energy Emergency declared by the present US administration, stressing the need for a reliable, diversified, and affordable supply of energy to meet rising energy demand and remain competitive in the global AI race.
