US DOE approves 28 Mt/year LNG exports from CP2 project (US)

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has agreed to issue the final export authorization for Venture Global’s CP2 LNG Project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana (United States). The approval permits the export of up to 3.96 bcf/d (around 30 Mt/year) of LNG to non-Free Trade Agreement (non-FTA) countries (US Department of Energy press release, 22/10/2025).

This authorization “follows the Department’s conditional authorization to CP2 LNG in March 2025 and reflects the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s May 2025 decision approving the siting, construction, and operation of the facility”, according to the DOE’s statement.

  • In July 2025, Venture Global announced the final investment decision (FID) for the CP2 LNG project.
  • The terminal will have a production capacity of 20 Mt/year, with a peak capacity of 28 Mt/year; first LNG exports are expected in the third quarter of 2027.

Phase 1 of the project is underpinned by long-term sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) with major international customers across Europe and Asia, including Eni (Italy), Petronas (Malaysia), and SEFE (Germany).
