US crude oil exports reached a record of 4.1 mb/d in 2023

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the US crude oil exports in 2023 increased by 13% compared to 2022 levels, establishing a new record of an average of 4.1 mb/day.

Growth in crude oil production in the United States has supported increases in US crude oil exports. In 2023, crude oil production rose by 9% (1 mb/d) to reach a record-high 12.9 mb/d. The top regional destinations for U.S. crude oil exports since 2018 have been Europe (1.8 mb/d), Asia and Oceania (1.7 mb/d). Europe became the top export destination in 2023 following the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the inclusion of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil in Dated Brent. The Netherlands received more U.S. crude oil exports than any other country in 2023, averaging 652 kb/d (+82%, or +293 kb/d compared with 2022).
