The US commits an additional USD967m to strengthen power grid resilience

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced approximately USD967m in additional funding to modernise critical energy infrastructure.

The funding will be allocated through the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grant programme to support infrastructure upgrades by states, territories and tribal governments, with the aim of ensuring a more affordable and reliable electricity supply, the DOE said.

The announcement follows a series of measures by the US government to strengthen the power grid and curb rising electricity costs. In mid-October 2026, the DOE unveiled plans to invest approximately USD 581m in 84 electricity transmission and distribution projects across eight US states, in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The projects are expected to add around 2.5 GW of grid capacity (KEI, 16/10/2026).
