The federal administration of the United States will partner with 11 east coast US states to accelerate the development of offshore wind facilities by supporting a supply chain for the industry. The wind initiative will provide funding to create a domestic offshore wind supply chain and support a fleet of specialised vessels to build and service the projects.
The move is part of the country's plan to expand clean energy technologies that could boost America’s energy security, especially amid recent turmoil due to rising energy prices, particularly for oil.
This move is also part of the current US administration’s push to tackle climate change and further the energy transition, as the United States have confirmed they target 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 (only 42 MW in 2021).
