The United States plans to deploy 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030

The US administration has announced plans to deploy 30 GW of offshore wind in the country by 2030, which will require more than US$12bn/year in capital investments. Consequently, the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management plans to advance new lease sales and complete review of at least 16 Construction and Operations Plans (COPs) by 2025, representing more than 19 GW of new capacity. The New York Bight (between Long Island and the New Jersey coast) has been identified as a priority Wind Energy Area and the BOEM will publish a Proposed Sale Notice, followed by a lease sale in late 2021 or early 2022.

The US will seek to advance critical permitting milestones for the 1,100 MW Ocean Wind offshore wind project. The country's eventual goal is to have 110 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050. In 2020, the United States added 12 MW of offshore wind capacity, according to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
