Unit 1 of the Quang Trach I thermal power plant project has successfully burned coal for the first time, marking a technical milestone in the process of commissioning the project, located Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province (Vietnam) (EVN press release, 07/05/2026).
Owned by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the power plant consists of 2 units using ultra-supercritical (USC) technology with a total installed capacity of 1,403 MW, none of which has been commissioned yet. "When put into operation, the plant will provide the national power system with an electricity output of about 9.1 TWh/year, contributing to ensuring national energy security, the safety and stability of the power system", according to EVN.
EVN and its partner EVNPMB2 will keep working to complete the remaining test, speed up the commissioning and calibration schedule to bring Unit 1 into stable and safe operation and efficiency.
