German energy company Uniper has secured planning permission for the Humber H2ub 120 MW project, a green hydrogen production plant at its existing Killingholme natural gas-fired power plant in the Humber region, in the United Kingdom. The site could deploy six of the OEM’s 20 MW electrolyser units to produce over 17 kt/year of hydrogen, to supply Phillips 66’s nearby refinery.
British electrolyser maker ITM Power Plc has been awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) study. Expected to begin operations by 2029, a potential future 200 MW+ expansion is being considered.
The Humber H2ub project has been shortlisted in the UK's Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) subsidy scheme, which could provide revenue support through 15-years of contract-for-difference style deals with the firm.
