Germany’s Uniper has signed a long-term agreement to purchase 2 Mt/year of LNG from Canada’s proposed Ksi Lisims LNG project (Uniper press release, 29/07/2026).
Under the sale and purchase agreement, Uniper will purchase the LNG on a free-on-board (FOB) basis for a period of up to 20 years, with the first cargoes expected to be delivered from 2032.
The Ksi Lisims LNG project, which is being developed by the Nisga’a Nation, Western LNG and Rockies LNG, is planned for Pearse Island, British Columbia, and is expected to have a production capacity of 12 Mt/year through two floating LNG production and storage facilities.
The agreement secures commitments for 6 Mt/year of LNG, equivalent to 50% of the project's planned capacity, bringing it closer to the level required for a final investment decision (FID). Commissioning of the project is targeted for 2029. Ksi Lisims LNG received approval from the Canadian federal government and the Government of British Columbia in 2025.
Canada continues to strengthen its position in the global LNG industry, supported by an increasing number of projects under development and a series of recently concluded commercial agreements.
These developments also reflect the growing efforts of global energy companies to diversify their supply sources in response to major market disruptions, particularly those arising from the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
