The UK’s National Energy System Operator (NESO), in partnership with the Energy Networks Association (ENA), has progressed on 58% of its 2030 pipeline for grid connection, representing 37 GW of new renewable capacity (NESO press release, 10/06/2026). The 2030 pipeline is composed of 1,223 ready-to-go projects, spanning a diverse technology mix of onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, BESS, and hydropower, of which 713 have received grid connection offers. The grid allocations are projected to help unlock up to GBP40bn (EUR46bn) in annual clean power investment across the country, by providing developers with long-term planning certainty.
To maintain access to this deliverable pipeline, projects must now meet stricter criteria, including securing planning permission, land rights and adhering to the UK’s clean energy admissions. The 37 GW capacity is expected to directly support the British government's target to largely decarbonize its power sector by 2030, which requires reaching 132 GW of low-carbon capacity.
