Ukraine upgrades gas import capacity from Poland to 6.6 bcm/y

Ukrtransgaz has completed modernization works at the Komarno compressor station in Lviv region (Ukraine). The station is part of the Ukraine-Poland interconnector and, with this upgrade, increases Ukraine's gas import capacity from Poland to 6.6 bcm/year (from previous 1.5 bcm/year). This project will help secure Ukraine's gas supply in case of zero transit of Russian gas from 1 January 2020. Gas flows will be ensured once the Polish gas transmission system from Tworzen to Pogorska Wola is completed (in 2021).

Ukraine is now able to receive volumes of gas which exceed the capacity of the Świnoujście-3 regasification terminal (5 bcm/year).

Ukraine has interconnection capacities with Russia (import capacity of 246 bcm/year and export capacity of 32.5 bcm), Belarus (import capacity of 34.9 bcm/year), Hungary (import capacity of 5 bcm/year and export capacity of 13.2 bcm), Slovakia (import capacity of 15 bcm/year and export capacity of 98.4 bcm), Moldova (export capacity of 3.5 bcm) and Romania (export capacity of 31.3 bcm).
