The UK Government has unveiled its UK Solar Roadmap, a plan of action to increase solar deployment to support its net-zero goal by 2030. The roadmap sets out practical actions for industry and government to overcome the challenges to delivering the goal of installing 45-47 GW of solar capacity by 2030, as outlined in the country's Clean Power Action Plan. The Roadmap also sets the stage for longer-term growth beyond 2030, and commits to actions to support new, good quality jobs, through the ramp up of solar deployment.
The document focuses in the promotion of rooftop solar (across commercial, domestic and public-sector), the reform of process within the electricity networks to improve their efficiency (streamlining small-scale projects, Ofgem’s End-to-End review, barrier removal to combine storage and solar projects, etc), and the update the planning system while creating financial support mechanisms at a local and national levels, among other related strategies.
