The UK launches CfD auction to support renewable projects

The British Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has launched auctions for new 15-year Contracts for Difference (CfD), offering £325m (€435m) in support to low carbon project in the United Kingdom. Offshore wind and some biomass technologies will get £260m (€350m). The auction will be divided according to the maturity degree of the renewable technology. The first auction for established technologies (solar, onshore wind) will offer £50m (€67m) for projects commissioning from 2015-2016, and an additional £15m (€20m) (i.e. £65m or €87m in total) for projects commissioning from 2016-2017 onwards. For less established technologies, such as offshore wind and biomass CHP, £155m (€207m) will be offered for projects commissioning from 2016-2017 onwards, and an additional £105m (€140m) (i.e. £260m or €350m in total) for projects commissioning from 2017-2018 onwards. For the third technology (biomass conversion), no budget was released in this allocation round.
