The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted development consent for the Dogger Bank South (DBS) offshore wind projects and the North Falls offshore wind park, adding a total of approximately 4 GW of new offshore wind capacity (UK government statement, 14/05/2026).
The consent covers the two Dogger Bank South wind parks, DBS West and DBS East, which are being developed through a joint venture between RWE (51%) and Masdar (49%). Each site will have an installed capacity of around 1.5 GW, bringing the combined capacity of the DBS scheme to approximately 3 GW.
The DBS projects are located in the North Sea, more than 100 km off the north-east coast of England and are expected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual demand of roughly three million UK households. The development consent follows a Development Consent Order (DCO) application submitted in June 2024. The projects had already secured support through the UK Government’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 7 in January 2026. RWE and Masdar are now proceeding with final design and procurement activities, with a final investment decision (FID) targeted for 2027 and first power in 2030.
Separately, the North Falls offshore wind project has also received approval for its DCO. The project is expected to deliver around 1 GW of installed capacity and is being developed by RWE and SSE Renewables as a 50:50 joint venture. It will be located approximately 40 km off the East Anglia coast and will act as an extension to the existing 504 MW Greater Gabbard offshore wind park, according to RWE’s press release.
