The UK government has granted planning approval for 1.2 GW of new solar capacity, including a project that is expected to become the UK’s second-largest solar park (Government press release, 08/07/2026).
Development consent orders have been granted for the proposed 740 MW One Earth Solar Park near Lincoln, the 320 MW Peartree Hill Solar Park in East Yorkshire, and the 150 MW Dean Moor Solar Park in West Cumbria. Each of the three projects is expected to include a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS).
The One Earth Solar project is being jointly developed by PS Renewables and Perigus Energy, the renewable energy company launched by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Peartree Hill has been developed by the UK division of RWE Renewables, while Dean Moor Solar is a joint venture between ib vogt and Firma Energy.
This announcement follows the government’s recent confirmation of new planning reforms that will remove mandatory pre-application consultation requirements for major infrastructure projects, reducing the planning process by up to 12 months (KEI, 08/07/2026). “It also comes as government data published last month shows that 2025 was the strongest year on record for solar deployment, with 269,000 installations completed across the UK” said the government’s statement.
The UK government has set a target of at least 45 GW of installed solar capacity by 2030. According to our data, 17.8 GW of solar capacity had been installed by the end of 2025 (Enerdata Global Energy & CO2 data).
